What does it mean for a model to be a "non-chain-of-thought" model?

Instead of breaking down problems into intermediate logical steps like a Chain of Thought (CoT) model, non-CoT models give direct final answers in response to a prompt. Non-CoT models tend to give faster responses because they begin generating final answers immediately without “thinking” through multiple steps. Non-CoT models lack a reasoning trail in their response output which makes it more difficult to understand how they arrived at their conclusions and they are more likely to make mistakes in response to more complex inputs.
